StatusBeta – Wearable Device Testing Platform

I extended to a testing platform, a website that might look like an app store but is really just a bunch of my own Glass hacks – with virtual tryouts.

And then I entered it in the Salesforce Million Dollar Hackathon… which was a bit haphazardly managed, such that they ended up giving a tie for first place and up-ing the first place prize to giving away two million dollar prizes – however, I did not win. (I would probably not be feeling glum enough to document my hacks, if that happened.)

Light Trombone

A Glass Theremin that uses the light sensor to module the frequencies of notes from a Glass Trombone. Calibrate and fire to play.

gyroPiano

Mapping from a plane to a cylindrical geometry, for z-axis symmetry in a piano that you play around you, tap to play a note.

Along the same lines of StyleZapper (or gyroFIRE or Glass Shootout with blocks ordered cylindrically around you instead of random placement)…

gyroBeats lets you rotate your head and aim a crosshair at various cymbals and drum set items to jam some gyroBeats.

This is basically the same dumb raycast-hit to apply a gaussian filter to a spherical mesh vertex that I did three years ago in ClayAR for Qualcomm – but you use the Glass gyroscope to rotate the sphere and the only touch-point is the crosshair in the center, that you tap the Glass side panel to sculpt.

Note: this is basically an extension of the gyroFIRE platform.

At Makerfaire San Mateo, this year, I showed MakerAR World Builder, which lets you assemble robots and planets and circuits and a whole bunch of other 3d mesh objects in 3d augmented reality – using some awesome realtime ARM-optimized SLAM that lets people build AR stuff on potentially any surface. To demonstrate, we had kids (and others) go up to our tarp surface and draw all kinds of random stuff on it. Tracking surface pointcloud updated in real time – the more crazy the drawing, the better the augmentation
